YOGYAKARTA SULTANATE PALACE
This is a part of The Keraton (Royal Palace) in Yogyakarta. This is the seat of the Yogyakarta sultanate, the most respected sultanate in Indonesian modern history due to its role in Indonesia's independence struggle in 1945-1949. The ninth sultan (Hamengku Buwono IX) reigned as the ruler (Governor) of Yogyakarta special district until his death. He also served as vice president from 1973 to 1978. The current sultan (Hamengku Buwono X) doesn't replace his father as Yogyakarta's governor, however, he has gained popularity among his subjects.
